Isavel has seen what comes after death, and wishes it on no one. Now a miracle-ridden instrument of absent gods, she must try to seal the barrier protecting the mortal world from body-stealing ghosts. But miracles and heroism push her further and further from the life she wanted for herself, far enough she fears becoming utterly lost to her humanity.

And the ghostly invasion is not what it first seemed. Ada now knows her fool ancestors ruined the very world these spirits are trying to escape, and if the mortal army has its way, nothing less is at stake than life after death itself. Before she can see a new dawn, she must fight to stop the slide into a darker night.

Both disparate fates weave ever closer together, as what little they knew of the world becomes less and less certain. They may know each other’s face, but has either understood who the other really is? Their collision could reverberate far beyond Earth, out into stars that still keep quiet watch over forgotten Earth.
